Day 8: Apostolic Beliefs: Acts 2:38

Standard

Hi y’all! I had planned on writing three posts today to make up for the two days I missed because I went home for a short break (and we do not have internet at my family home). The last post was really long though so I am amending that to writing just these two posts today and writing two more tomorrow (also in this same series). I really, really want to write ones on the great and infamous hair issue and on the holiness standards, both of which make us Pentecostal girls stand out in a crowd! Those two will probably be tomorrow so look forward to that! Also, I really hope this series I am starting does not offend anyone or start a giant comment war; I just want you guys to know my beliefs and why I believe them. They are part of the core of my being and I want to share that otherwise I am not doing God any justice. If you haven’t looked yet, my Day 7 post was about my belief in Oneness doctrine. I hope you get something out of that post and I hope if nothing else you pulled out your Bible to dispute my verses! 🙂

This post, I want to briefly go over the Apostolic’s plan of SALVATION. This is summed up in the Bible verse Acts 2:38 where it states “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” So short and straight to the point, it is a perfect verse for how to become saved and is the go-to verse for Pentecostals.

1) Repent!! In other words, feel true sorrow for your sins and your actions and ask God for forgiveness.  It also includes turning away from those sins and starting a new life of following Christ.

2) Be baptized in the name of Jesus!! You must be baptized by being fully submerged underwater in order to be cleansed of all of your sins and receive forgiveness for your sins. Even Jesus himself was baptized in order to show us what we have to do to receive salvation, that is how important it is! In the previous post about Oneness doctrine I mentioned in more detail about why it must be in the name of Jesus, so I will just state here that Acts 2:38 specifically states “in the name of Jesus Christ” as a singular name and that name is Jesus. God’s name is Jesus and that is another reason why the Trinitarian “in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost” is not biblically correct.

3) Receive the gift of the Holy Ghost!! This is evidenced by the speaking of other tongues. (Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”)

If you do all of these three things and continue to live a Godly life, I believe you are saved and going to heaven either when you die or Jesus returns and calls us up. I do feel I need to state that I do NOT believe “once saved, always saved.” People can (and do) backslide and can lose their salvation.

I really hope this helps you in some way and that God touches your life. 🙂

  1. You repeat what you were taught even if it is bad hermeneutics. Acts 2:38 is NOT the gospel in short form. My sister accepted Jesus, was baptized and prayed for the HG
For over a year. Read John 3 and she the truth.

    • There is no harm in her having personal beliefs or explaining them to others. There also is no harm in you disagreeing. God is big enough for all of us.

  2. God= God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit
3 in ONE all three form one God. i personally picture this like this; Parent{ father, mother, children} (can’t be parents without a mother or father or without children take away children you cant be parents take away father or mother then all you have is a child and a mother or father. to be Parent there must be a father, mother, and a child (ren).
We are ALL sinners (inherited from the first Adam (blood man) in the garden of Eden-our great……grandfather for we all descended from him. God told man the day you eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall surely die. when Adam and Eve ate from the tree, We all sinned with them for we all come from them therefore we all inherited the punishment and the curse. Death means separation from God. We were ALL separated from God. Romans 5:19. We see in the Old testament that there had to be a blood sacrifice for man to be cleansed from sin yearly. the sacrifice had to be a perfect/blemish less lamb. the priest would inspect the lamb (not the sinner) and if the lamb qualified it would be accepted for the atonement. the sinners sin would be imputed on to the lamb and the lambs righteousness would be imputed on to the sinner. the lamb would die because he is the one with the sin and the man (previous sinner) would walk away justified. All of this was Shadow of what was to come (Jesus) When God told Abraham to sacrifice is Only Son the Son whom he loved this was a picture of how God the Father would one day give up His One and Only Son Jesus. This shows us How much Love God the Father has for Us that he would be willing to give up His Only Son for Whosoever would believe in Him Not Parrish. We are all DOOMED without salvation. God is a Just God. Sin Must be Punished. ALL MUST DIE AND BE CURSED BECAUSE WE ARE ALL SINNERS! We are not sinners because we sin. We sin because that is our nature we are sinners in need of a savior! When God the Father sent his Son Jesus to earth God the Son became one of us. He had to become one of us in order to 1. represent us to the father 2. be our sacrifice (take upon Himself our sin) 3. take the curse for us. 4. Die in our place. and the list goes on and on.
    Remember: Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed;
Women does not bear a seed, Man does, so what does this mean, this means that God the Father placed his seed, Jesus, in the womb of Mary. Therefore Jesus does not carry the curse or sin of Adam. He is Holy. Thrice Holy. He being Holy FULFILLED the Law of Moses. (fulfilled=completed) what man could never do nor can he do.
*note: the Law was only to show man how sinful he is but could never save him. Actually the law Brought us Death.
Jesus Layed down His life he was the perfect blemish less Lamb of God that would take away the sins of the world. When We believe in him that He is The Perfect Son of God that took our sin upon Him self and endured the complete wrath of God upon Himself in our place (for the punishment that Jesus suffered was My punishment that i deserved because I am the sinner) Jesus Absorbed it all upon Himself and cried out FINISHED (God’s wrath towards sin FINISHED) Jesus took our shame (he was stripped naked) our diseases/illnesses (death)= (his flesh was torn off his body-by his strip we are healed) our labor for salvation by the sweat of your head shall you eat bread (Jesus (salvation) is the bread of Life) (he sweat blood) thorn and thistle (he wore the crown of thorn) and of course death Jesus Died in OUR PLACE. HIS BLOOD WAS SHED. not ours. If we believe that he did all of this for us and that his sacrifice was accepted by the FATHER. (RESURRECTION) WE ARE SAVED. Justified by the blood of Jesus> (justice has been paid) we baptize in the water in the name of Jesus as we Romans 6:4 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. we Identify our self in Jesus’s death. in other word. when Jesus died we died. price for sin and curse that we inherited by Adam, paid in full through Jesus upon His Body, in our place. WE ARE JUSTIFIED NO BY WHAT WE DO OR DO NOT DO for that would be Romans 3:20 being put back into bondage to the Law. However….
Now that we Have died to our Old Man (whose spirit was dead because of Adam’s sin) Our spirit is now Alive for Jesus came to bring Life!!!! Now we walk by the Spirit we are filled with the GOD the Holy Spirit John 16:7. when Jesus left he sent us the Holy Spirit. by whom we cry ABBA FATHER or Daddy God. There is no fear!!! there is AWWW. God is good!! He Loves Us. Now we are guided by the Holy Spirit He is the one that Changes us and guides us to Holy living!!! if we go by rule of do’s and don’t we are being self righteous (pharisees and Hippocrates) focusing on our self for salvation instead of looking to Jesus as our only source of Salvation. believe you me God can change us way better than rules. When he changes us our motives change as well. We do or don’t do what God guides us to do out of LOVE. The law said thou shalt not commit adultery but it never said to love our spouse. but when Jesus comes in we love our spouse. the law said thou shalt not steal but now that we are saved in filled with the Holy spirit we give give not expecting return. we love our neighbor and our enemy we Pray for those that are against us.We are called to reconcile the world to God. Sadly we are pushing people away from God. WE have a holier than thou attitude at times that actually push people away from God. How can we bring them to God? by sticking to the true and pure Gospel. Jesus Son of God took our place took our sin paid the price for our sin died in our place. sacrifice accepted by the Father Resurrected. sent Holy Spirit to guide us to the truth. if we believe this and accept Jesus into our hearts. we are saved. we are baptized as a symbolic expression that we died and were buried with Jesus in His death and we come out with a New and Living soul. we are a NEW CREATION!! all thing have passed away Behold all things are made new. Yes, since we are still living in the flesh we will fall at times but we get back up again. we might commit a sinful deed but do we live in sin No!! Jesus forgave us once and for all!!! we are still humans and Jesus is sitting at the Right hand of the Father Interceding (representing) us actually the bible says that we are seated with Christ Ephesians 2:6. God Knows we are weak He knows we Can’t live a perfect sinless life. otherwise He wouldn’t have sent Jesus to take our place. He wanted to restore our relationship with him as it was in the beginning. in the creation. but How? Sin had to carry its consequence.
That is why JESUS and only Jesus is the answer. Not our hair, or clothes, or makeup. (seriously) Isn’t our lives more than clothes. etc. LETS GET BACK TO JESUS!!!
May God Bless every one!!! (sorry so long but it goes on and on, God is so good study His word!! become passionate about Jesus not religion)
